Rock Music At Its Best!

Anglesey Review (Street Bike)

We're on Anglesey for the North Wales Custom Bike Show. It's Friday night, the tent's up and we're all in party mood. We've come to see Doghouse, a four piece rock band from Birkenhead who know how to play and enjoy doing it. We've seen them before in the Limelight in Crewe and the Celtic Riders Rally near Wrexham - a top class band. They didn't disappoint us tonight either. The opening number, a cover of Whitesnake's Come On, really set the tone - power, rhythm and melody - we haven't seen this combination from a rock band in years.

By the time they got to Ace of Spades the whole place was rocking. Doghouse have got the knack of making you feel you're watching something special, even their own songs sound like rock classics! They always look like they're having a good time - not just standing there like so many bands. They remind me a bit of watching Quo when Rossi and Parfitt were in their heyday.

A rousing rendition of Doctor Doctor followed by A Whole Lotta Rosie ensured that the crowd yelled for more. The first encore, Are You Ready To Rock (Thin Lizzy) and Lenny Kravitz's Are You Gonna Go My Way just made matters worse - the crowd shouted for even more! The band dutifully obliged with an excellent version of Lizzy's Gotta Give It Up (a quick peek at the set list showed that this was totally unscheduled). The twin guitars of Rob Carubea and Andy Pennington sounded just as good as Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson. Must mention the drummer, looked really cool in the baseball cap and shades! As for the bass player - sweat? - every time he shook his head the front row had a shower! Steam was coming from the top of his head!

Thanks lads for a great gig, and thanks to MAG for booking them. Hope to see Doghouse at some of the big bashes next year - how about the Rock & Blues/Stormin The Castle/Farmyard etc?
